Getting angry at the world so you don’t have to!

48 to go

I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the California Supreme Court today. All I can say is that it’s about gorram time.

For those of you who don’t follow the news, the California Supreme Court overturned a statewide marriage ban for gay and lesbian couples. Differing politics based on things like the role of the Executive, how we relate with foreign powers, and how to use our military, those things I can completely understand even if I disagree with people. Believing that gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people shouldn’t be afforded the same rights as everyone else is simply baffling.

I just can’t wrap my head around the arguments against it as they’re just mind bogglingly stupid. Like the “threatening the sanctity of marriage” argument. With reality shows like Trading Spouses making a farce out of marriage (originally a Chappelle’s Show skit) and a divorce rate of over 50%, is that what you are trying to protect? If anything, I think that gays and lesbians may possibly be able to bring that percentage rate down. At least until the novelty wears off and they become as miserable as everyone else.

Then there’s the entire “Adam and Steve” nonsense. I initially started to type that as “Adama and Steve,” and I’m immature enough to laugh at it. They start off with the Old Testament (Leviticus 20:13) and they just pick and choose the parts they want to believe and rationalize away everything else that’s barbaric and cruel as being only relevant at the time or “part of the old Mosaic law” that we don’t need to follow anymore. Like the fact that children that are disrespectful of their parents should be put to death (Leviticus 20:9). Or the fact that cheating on your wife comes with it a punishment of death.

Anyway, let us hope that now a big state with a relatively conservative Supreme Court (yes, California’s Supreme Court is actually pretty moderate/conservative) gets the ball rolling for other states. I’m not going to hold my breath for Texas, though.
