Apparently, there’s a judge in the small northwestern Colorado town of Fort Lupton who has come up with a new and interesting way of punishing those people who are cited for noise violations. Judge Paul Sacco has decided to make offenders listen for an hour to music that they don’t like, such as Barry Manilow or the Platters or Barney.
I don’t know if the judge is trying to come off as clever or cute, but really? He’s doing neither and coming off as dumb. Way to make yourself look like you’re completely out of touch. What’s next? Are you going to make kids do yardwork for trespassing on someone’s lawn?

I got into a pretty heated discussion earlier this evening that my lizard brain was interpreting as “Men are emotionally dead horndogs whereas women are feeling and caring creatures incapable of fault.” Mind you, on the first part of it, my lizard brain was pretty accurately interpreting what was being said to me. It’s the latter part that sort of got retroactively added as a sort of counterbalance to the first part.

Today, it’s been disclosed that Sarah Palin’s personal Yahoo account (not the one she used to conduct official government business) had been hacked by Anonymous.
Sadly, a lot of misinformation is being circulated about just what anonymous is. Hell, even the normally spot on guys on This Week in Tech were confused on it when they discussed Anonymous back in episode 154. Of course, that’s not surprising if they’re getting their information on Anonymous from the New York Times. So, here’s a brief explanation of what is and is not Anonymous that will likely be completely wrong by the time I finish the post.

Ahh yes. September 11th. I’d completely forgotten until I turned on the TV, pored through the internet, and read the newspaper. It’s pretty ubiquitous. How long do you think it will be until Patriot Day (as it’s called) will be as meaningful to most Americans as Memorial Day or Labor Day? Ah, but that’s a [...]

Today’s xkcd was one of those moments where you are completely lost, and then suddenly, it comes to you like a bolt of lightning. I thought the comic was good and funny, and then I started reading the comments on it and was reminded of why I hated that book so much.
Sure, there were the [...]

Over the past couple decades, experts in their fields have noticed a growing rise in the number of Murcans (hetero sapiens muricanus) inhabiting North America, their population seeming to grow exponentially through both the traditional methods of procreation, but also through the means of spontaneous generation.
While many believe Murcans to be a modern menace, they have been endimic to North America for well over a hundred years and possibly longer.

A growing excuse I’ve been hearing from single women as to why they’re single is something along the lines of, “I’m soooo independent and intelligent and confident and men just can’t accept that.” They then proceed to tell their friends (and by extension, everyone around them because they seem to always do this in public and always really loudly) just how awesome they are and how intimidated everyone is by her and her sheer awesomeness.

The other day I got lambasted at a gathering because I and another philosophy geek were discussing existentialism. People who weren’t even part of the discussion overheard us and because they thought that we were talking about religion, we were not-so-politely told to shut up because religion and politics aren’t appropriate for “polite conversation,” never [...]

Well, that is 1 hour and 41 minutes that I am never going to get back, and I have only myself to blame. I generally enjoy the overwhelming majority of movies. Even the worst of Troma and other independent films are things I can enjoy. Mind you, I may not go out of my way to watch something like Meet the Spartans or Epic Movie, but if I had to endure them, I think even those movies I’d be able to find a couple scenes or lines that didn’t make the movie a complete waste.

Homeowner’s association thugs strike again, this time over air drying laundry in the back yard. You know, the part of the yard that no one sees so there’s no way in hell it can cause property values to fall. You would think that having laundry to dry in the backyard would seem to hark back to the ’50s and a sensibility of housewives with phony smiles and husbands who like to smoke a pipe and read the newspaper after his wife cooks him dinner. Isn’t that the kind of ideal neighborhood these people are dreaming of?
