It’s not unusual to be punished with crooners

November 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Apparently, there’s a judge in the small northwestern Colorado town of Fort Lupton who has come up with a new and interesting way of punishing those people who are cited for noise violations. Judge Paul Sacco has decided to make offenders listen for an hour to music that they don’t like, such as Barry Manilow or the Platters or Barney.

I don’t know if the judge is trying to come off as clever or cute, but really? He’s doing neither and coming off as dumb. Way to make yourself look like you’re completely out of touch. What’s next? Are you going to make kids do yardwork for trespassing on someone’s lawn?

Because one’s music choice shows us how presidential they are

August 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Thank you, Blender Magazine for asking the tough hitting questions to the two presidential candidates. They asked them to each make a list of their top ten favorite songs. You know, because there isn’t enough things to talk about, like the economy, or Russia’s attack of Georgia, or the war in Iraq. No no! We [...]

This week in nonsense, July 31st, 2008

August 1st, 2008 · No Comments

My name is Cochese, and I approve this message.

There are a couple McCain ads that have just sort of floored me in the past week, and the Democratic response to one of them is even more idiotic.

I love inside jokes, I love references, I love webcomics, and nerdy preferences

June 29th, 2008 · 9 Comments

The latest xkcd is a great homage to a Discovery Channel commercial that pays homage to a classic campfire song. However, there are a lot of internal references to the comic that a lot of people may not understand. So, because the comics are released under a Creative Commons license, I’m able to cut apart the panels using The Gimp and have each frame of the comic link to the original comic that it’s referencing.

Jesus, Senator McCain, people are going to just feel sorry for you. I mean, I do.

June 13th, 2008 · No Comments

McCain has been irritated that Obama keeps saying that he’s running for Bush’s third term and that he’s trying to run against Bush and not McCain. McCain says that couldn’t be further from the truth. ORLY?

It’s McCain 2008 vs. McCain 2005! McCain 2008 says that he’s nothing like George W. Bush. McCain 2005 says that [...]

“Michelle Obama gave birth to an illegitimate black child,” and other nonsense.

June 6th, 2008 · No Comments

This is just classy. While the rumor of there being some tape of Michelle Obama using the term “whitey” has been around for a couple weeks, it’s gotten worse since Tuesday when Obama locked up the nomination. It reached critical mass yesterday when Barack Obama was asked about it by a reporter. Until then, it [...]

The myth of noble journalism

May 27th, 2008 · No Comments

I was listening to one of the podcasts that I normally listen to, and the hosts were waxing nostalgic at how the media used to be objective and how they didn’t try to inject themselves into a story. They were wondering if this “new news” was different than “old news” because there isn’t that selfless, cold, and composed anchor talking about someone doing something terrible, like taking forty cakes.

What people will do to generate ad revenue

April 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Linkbaiting is a search engine optimization practice in which someone takes a completely onerous stand on something with the intention of pissing a lot of people off and getting a lot of people to link to it so they can show others how wrong this person is. Of course, for the individual that engages in [...]

How NOT to be an internet celebrity

April 25th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’ve met douchebags, and I’ve met douchebags. This guy, though? The man is in a class of his own. The level of which man excels at douchebaggery is a work of art. Take a look through the playlist on his site. That kind of thing requires dedication. Can you tell that I like saying “douchebags”?

You want happy ending with your number massage?

March 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Poring through the newspaper at work, I came across a short article deriding certain California government officials for saying that Detroit auto makers “aren’t doing enough to improve fuel economy.” The article then compares gas mileage ratings from many years ago to those today and compares the percentages each auto maker has dropped. Interestingly, all [...]
