Extremely Lame

Getting angry at the world so you don’t have to!

Deep in the heart of Texas

Down here in Texas, you see NATIVE TEXAN bumper stickers just about every day you’re on the road.

Being from a relatively normal state, I just don’t get it. How can someone be so proud of the geographical location of their mom’s crotch at the time of their birth that they have to get a bumper sticker to display it?

Of course, there are a lot of other things I just don’t get being proud of. Proud to be an American? Why? The only people who legitimately get to be proud to be an American are the people who chose to immigrate here and get U.S. citizenship. Everyone else is just a citizen because of a geographic lottery. People born in the U.S. didn’t do anything at all to become a U.S. citizen, why should they take pride in something they had absolutely nothing to do with?

Proud to be black/white/brown/yellow/purple? Again, why? It’s not like you had a choice in the matter.

Religion? I can see being proud of that since you can choose to leave or choose to stay once you’ve been raised in a religion or absence of one. Of course, for a lot of religion, being prideful is wrong.

You can be proud of things you accomplish and effects you change, but being proud of something you had no control over is just lame.
